Not all home improvement projects go well as seen above. I just can't put my finger on what will make this fireplace look better short of tearing it all down. I thought it was that ugly dark paneling on either side. The lighter color does change the brightness of the room and make the fireplace itself stand out more but I still dislike it. May it is the wrong color.
I painted it while Marlin was gone on a trip. His first reaction was not the best but better then I expected. My brother came over and has dubbed it The Wall of Shame. He comes up with the best names as a way of light encouragement! How true it is. So for now we will leave it for all to see until we have some sort of inspiration Any and all suggestions are welcome. You can only live with shame for so long!

Okay, so I looked at it for quite a while the other day. 1. I think it's because it's a pinkish tan color which clashes with the other colors. 2. it does make the fireplace stand out. 3. the fireplace is just gross. Are there any stains out there for the white stone? 4. If you are going to paint the panelling you need some sort of seperation between the wall and the ceiling like molding... but that means molding all he way around... and then there is the question as to when to stop. I say tear down the panel, stain the stones... or build a faux fireplace in front. More work. Sorry.

We are in agreement on items1,2,3 (heavy emphsis on this one)&4. My vote has always been to remove paneling and build a new surround for the whole thing. And yes more work. Heavy sigh!
